Vehicle Safety Tips
- Wear your seatbelt and make sure everyone else is wearing one before you start moving
- Remember to lock your vehicle at all times
- Maintain your vehicle to prevent sudden breakdowns
- Be alert - don't drive if you're drowsy or distracted
- Don't drink and drive
- Change your vehicle's wiper blades every 6 months to ensure clear visibility
- If you're going on a long trip or will be traveling during bad weather, keep a flashlight, shovel, blankets, first aid kit and a supply of food and medicine in the car
- During the winter, remove snow and ice from your vehicle before heading out - especially from the roof and hood
- Car seats for children need to be adjusted periodically and tested
for safety - many police stations offer free checks
- Avoid break-ins – place packages and valuables out of sight in the glove box or trunk
